Web portals of government offices ‘insecure’

The official web portals of government offices in Nepalgunj have appeared to be ‘insecure’.
The web portals have appeared to be insecure for no use of ‘secure socket layer (SSL)’. Most of the government web portals here are being operated without an SSL certificate, which is crucial for web security.
There is a security lock on websites of some ministries under the state government. Still, the web portals of most of the government, non-government and big industrial houses in Banke and Bardiya do not have security locks.
The office chiefs, however, have been turning deaf ears to take measures to make safe operation of the web portals at government and non-government offices.
Most of the local governments’ websites are also being operated and updated without using the SSL certificate.
The web portals of the federal government and state governments and web sites of the local government are seen with ‘not secure’ at the top right corner of the portals and sites.
There is no safety lock on the website of the Nepalgunj sub-metropolis. No safety measure has been put in place at the district level since government offices are being monitored from the central level, said computer engineer of Nepalgunj sub-metropolis, Ghanashyam Barma.
“The web portal is being updated every day but the problems are recurring”, he noted
Likewise, the domains of most of the government websites have not yet been amended.
The names of office heads and office-bearers have not been changed in the web portals and websites, which are crucial mechanisms for disclosing public information to the citizens.
