HoR continues clause-wise deliberation on Nepal Citizenship First Amendment Bill-2022

Kathmandu: The House of Representatives continued clause-wise deliberation on Nepal Citizenship First Amendment Bill-2022 today as well.
In the House meeting today, lawmakers who supported the bill said the bill would facilitate citizenship for more than 7 hundred thousand Nepalis who have not got citizenship yet.
They also claimed the bill would address the constitutional provision regarding citizenship. Some lawmakers further claimed that the bill would ease harbour the knowledge, skills and experiences of non-resident Nepalis for the development of the country.
However, some lawmakers registered amendments to the bill seeking the provision of certain years of stay in the country for matrimonial naturalized citizenship.
Likewise, amendments have been sought to ease the citizenship from the mother’s line, and dual citizenship for British Gorkha.
