Unicef and Japan Government collaborate to expand Vaccine Cold Chain system in Nepal

February 1, Kathmandu: The Government of Japan has provided grant assistance through Unicef to strengthen the vaccine cold chain system in Nepal.

Under this assistance, the Government of Japan has provided high-quality equipments including 9 walk in coolers, 38 solar driven vaccine refrigerator, 1 thousand and 9 long range vaccine carriers and 53 cold boxes.

 Apart from the technical assistance, the Japan Government has also decided to provide 10. 4 billion Nepali Rupees for Nepal’s socio-economic development.

The assistance is believed to help Nepal to develop necessary human resource for the effective management of regular vaccination and maintenance of cold chain.

Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Kikuta Yukata has said as Nepal is facing the third wave of Covid-19 the vaccination drive against Covid-19 is the top priority of Nepal Government.

The Japanese Ambassador expressed his hope that the assistance would help to vaccinate all citizens in Nepal.

Meanwhile, Unicef Representative to Nepal, Elke Wisch has expressed gratitude to the Japan Government for its continuous cooperation to help Nepal in its fight against Covid-19.

He added that the vaccine cold chain system would also be helpful for the effective and regular vaccination service to the Children against Covid-19.
