National General Convention of CPN Maoist Centre commences

Kathmandu: The 8th National General Convention of the CPN Maoist Centre has commenced from Sunday.

CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has inaugurated the Eighth national General Convention at the Nepal Academy Hall, Kamaladi in Kathmandu.

Chairman Prachanda declared the general convention open by lighting Panas butter-lamp. The theme of the general convention is – “CPN (Maoist Centre)’s First Historic National Conference for Building New Revolutionary Thought and Revolutionary Party.”

Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda said the convention would leave a significant remark in national politics.

Addressing the convention, Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba said the present ruling alliance would run till the full term of the government as it was formed in a bid to implement the constitution.

The Prime Minister clarified that the alliance was not against any political party as it was made for maintaining political stability in the country.  Prime Minister Deuba further said the government would take a formal decision on the MCC after discussion and concession with political parties.

He urged all not to stage protests having miss conception regarding the pact and appealed all to trust the business of the government.

The CPN (Maoist Centre) has organized its general convention coinciding with the 129th Memorial Day of the leader of the Communist Party of China, Mao Tse-tung. Chairman Prachanda garlanded a portrait of the Chinese revolutionary leader Mao on the occasion.

Also addressing the convention, CPN Unified Socialist Chairperson Madav Kumar Nepal stressed the need for carrying out efforts to make a prosperous and equitable society eradicating all forms of social anomalies.  

Likewise, CPN UML General Secretary Sankar Pokhrel stressed the need for unity and collaboration on the matters of nationality and national interest despite ideological differences among political parties

A group of women played the Panchebaja (an ensemble of five traditional Nepali musical instruments) along with various other presentations at the inaugural ceremony.

The Nepal Academy hall is packed and arrangements have been made to watch the proceedings on the stage on big display boards installed outside at the Academy premises. Pictures depicting the decade-long People’s War launched by the party in 1996 and other displays are on exhibition at the general convention venue.

Artistes also presented the song especially prepared in the context of the general convention. Hundreds of party leaders and cadres are assembled at the Nepal Academy premises in local Kamaladi to attend the inaugural ceremony.

Nepali Congress president and Prime Minister Sher bahadur Deuba, CPN (Unified Socialist) chairperson Madhav Kumar Nepal, the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal’s chairperson Upendra Yadav, the Rastriya Janamorcha Nepal’s vice-chairperson Durga Poudel, among the leaders of various political parties are also present in the programme.

Also present are Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP)’s general secretary Kunti Shahi. Altogether 1,631 party representatives will participate in the general convention.
