Counting of votes completes: Deuba gets 2258 votes, Koirala gets 1729 votes; voting to go to second round

December 14, Kathmandu: The counting of votes for the post of President of the Nepali Congress under the party’s 14th General Convention has been completed. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has received 2,258 votes. His nearest rival Dr Shekhar Koirala got 1,729 votes, while presidential candidate Prakash Man Singh got 360 votes, Bimalendra Nidhi got 239 votes and Kalyan Gurung got 20 votes. Now the second round of elections will feature party president Deuba and leader Dr Koirala.

A total of 4,679 out of 4,743 voters had cast their votes in the polling held from Monday morning till night. According to the NC constitution, it is mandatory to get more than 50 percent of the votes cast to win the election. As no candidate has got more than 50 percent votes in the first round, the election will now go to the second round.
