Proposed Charikot hospital winning hearts of patients

Dolakha / Sindhupalchowk: Ram Bahadur Bista, 75, of Chautara, Ward No. 1, Sagachokgadhi Municipality, may never have thought that he would reborn at the proposed Charikot Hospital.

The rapid rise in coronavirus infections has led to problems in the treatment of patients at Kathmandu’s well-equipped hospitals, forcing many to lose their lives or return to Mofasal for treatment.

Ram Bahadur Bista of Sindhupalchowk Chautara is one of those who were forced to return to Mofasal for treatment after seeking treatment at a well-equipped hospital in Kathmandu. And the proposed Charikot Hospital in Charikot, the district headquarters of Dolakha, has become the hospital of Mofasal to provide excellent treatment services to such patients.

Ram Bahadur, who fell ill on October 3 due to hernia problem, was rushed to Kathmandu but was not treated due to a lack of beds caused by the coronavirus pandemic. His son Devi Bahadur Bista had brought him to the proposed Charikot Hospital in Charikot after he was rushed to Bir Hospital, Civil Hospital, and Alka Hospital in Kathmandu. I had heard that Dr. Binod Dangal would provide good treatment at the proposed Charikot Hospital, Devi Bahadur said – so he brought his father to Charikot for treatment.

The team of Dr. Binod Dangal immediately started the treatment of Ram Bahadur who was brought to the proposed hospital in Charikot on the morning of October 4. Dr. Binod Dangal, Director of Health Services, Nyaya Health Nepal, said that the patient’s small intestine was stuck due to the problem of strangulated hernia.

Ram Bahadur, who was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, underwent immediate specialized treatment.
A team of Dr. Uday Diwakar, Dr. Santosh Pathak, and Nurse Rashmi Basi led by Dr. Binod Dangal successfully operated for three hours. Dr. Binod Dangal said that the chance of success was very low even if such an operation is done in a well-equipped hospital.

Ram Bahadur, from the hospital bed after the operation, said that Dr. Binod Dangal had become a god for him. After hospitals in Kathmandu refused to treat him under the pretext of a coronavirus pandemic, his son told him to go to Charikot for treatment. Ram Bahadur has complained that the hospitals in Kathmandu did not provide him with proper treatment under the pretext of corona even though he was sick for the first time on August 5.

According to Devi Bahadur, he spent almost a hundred thousand rupees taking his father to various hospitals in Kathmandu. But his complex operation was completed free of cost at the proposed Charikot Hospital. Dr. Dangal, director of health services at Nyay Health Nepal, who is involved in the treatment, says that even a small operation at a well-equipped hospital in Kathmandu will cost Rs 3-4 hundred thousand rupees.

According to Dr. Binod Dangal, Director of Health Services, Nyaya Health Nepal has performed 10 very complicated operations and 9 successful operations during the five years of operation of the proposed Charikot Hospital. During his 12-year stay in Dolakha, he has experienced many complex surgeries and has been directly or indirectly involved in about 2100 surgeries during his five years tenure in Nyaya Health Nepal.

After the corona infection, patients of complex nature who do not get treatment in different parts of the country including Kathmandu used to come to the proposed Charikot Hospital, and all of them were provided treatment, said Dr. Dangal. But now the problem has started as Nyaya Health Nepal is not able to support the hospital due to various reasons including financial reasons, says Dr. Dangal. Dr. Dangal further says that the support of the federal, state, and local governments is needed to run the hospital with the best services as before.
