Current sessions of both Houses expired from Saturday midnight

September 18, Kathmandu: The Current sessions of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly have expired from midnight on Saturday.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari at the recommendation of the Council of Ministers ended the House sessions as per the Constitution of Nepal. 

According to a notice issued by the National Assembly, the National Assembly meeting scheduled for September 18 will be automatically cancelled.

Leaders on behalf of their political parties put views in the final meeting of the current House of Representatives.

Addressing the House of Representatives meeting on Saturday, Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba said significant achievements were made during the term of the existing parliament.

He also claimed that the constitution and democracy were protected all because of the present government and the ruling alliance.

The PM mentioned that with the formation of the coalition government, the country’s foreign relations became smooth.

Prime Minister Deuba also assured that the coalition government would conclude the provincial and federal elections on the stipulated time impartially in a fear-free environment.

The Prime Minister also committed to providing compensation to the flood and landslide-affected people across the nation.

Likewise, CPN (UML) Chair KP Sharma Oli said overall the parliament was successful.

Addressing Saturday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Chairman Oli mentioned that the parliament implemented the constitution and holistic approaches of development were carried out during this term of the parliament. Chairman Oli said the governments elected from this Parliament had gained significant achievements.

Stating that post-earthquake reconstruction works had moved ahead in a remarkable manner.

Likewise, CPN Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda said the parliament during its five-year term could not run smoothly as expected.

He also wished that the next term of the house would run according to the constitution, democratic norms and values and people’s aspirations.CPN Unified Socialist leader Jhalanath Khanal and Janata Samajbadi Party Chair Upendra Yadhav said the ruling alliance was able to protect the constitution and parliament.

Former Prime Minister Baburam Bhatarrai said the issues of national concerns were not discussed sufficiently due to the political party’s interests and alliances. He, however, said important achievements were gained in terms of the implementation of the constitution. Addressing the final meeting of the House of Representatives today speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota said the house term was successful despite the political ups and downs.#
