National Assembly endorses Nepal Citizenship (First Amendment) Bill-2022 with majority
Kathmandu: The National Assembly has endorsed the Nepal Citizenship (First Amendment) Bill-2022 with a majority.
The Upper House passed the bill in its original form without making any revisions.
Earlier, President Bidya Devi Bhandari had returned the bill to the parliament with messages seeking reconsideration on it. The House of Representatives had already endorsed the bill.
Responding to the queries raised by lawmakers over the Citizenship Bill in the National Assembly meeting today, Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand urged all not to make the bill a matter of short-term benefit or loss as the bill was concerned with the country’s national unity and glory.
The Home Minister further clarified that the Citizenship Bill was brought to implement the constitutional provision of guaranteeing descendants of all Nepali citizens.
