Byas Municipality to prioritize conservation and promotion of cultural heritages

Damauli: The Byas Municipality in Tanahu district is to prioritize the conservation and promotion of cultural heritage.
Unveiling the policies and programmes of the municipality for the upcoming fiscal year 2022/23 recently, deputy mayor Indira Darai shared the municipality would provide support to its dwellers in building houses in traditional and ancient styles.
According to the municipal survey held in 2018, the municipality has a total of 71,809 population and 20,059 households. Anyone willing to build new houses in the old and traditional style would get support from the municipality, said deputy mayor Darai.
The municipality which is believed to be the place where sages Veda Byas and Parashar meditated aims to preserve Chautari, ponds, wells, taps and open public places, according to the deputy mayor.
Furthermore, a Byas Jhula, a suspension bridge linking Byas cave and the place where Parashar sage mediated will be implemented. Historical places such as Tanahusur Durbar area, Devi Danda, Swami Park and Siddeshwor Rajapani Mahadev among others will be protected and promoted, informed Darai.
Also, the municipality having 14 wards will bar mobilization of any heavy equipment that adversely affects environmental balance in the locality. To get rid of the maze of electricity and other cable wires, the municipality will manage electricity lines underground, she said.
The agriculture sector will be modernized and pocket areas for rice, maize and millet will be demarcated, the deputy mayor said. The municipality will provide assistance for animal husbandry and will help in marketization for those rearing animals for commercial purposes.
In order to increase livelihood and employment opportunities, the policy will be adopted to diversify and expand the scope of business relating to water, agriculture, educational tourism, religious tourism, rural tourism and sports tourism, shared Darai.
Moreover, the municipality will effectively implement a disaster risk reduction programme and services of fire brigade, ambulance and hearse will be further streamlined.
