World Press Freedom Day observed

Kathmandu: World Press Freedom Day has been observed today under the main slogan of ‘Journalism Under Digital Siege’.
On the occasion, the Federation of Nepali Journalists organised different programmes including the release of a report on press freedom and freedom of expression, photo exhibition and interaction.
At a programme organised here today, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, Tapa Bahadur Magar, said that all should pay attention to the professional security of journalists, adding press freedom is defense of human rights
Saying the NHRC has been drawing the attention of the government time and again for the safety of journalists, Chair Magar mentioned that it has been holding discussions with stakeholders to make procedures for the security of journalists.
Similarly, the President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Bipul Pokharel, shared that there is no situation of guarantee of press freedom, no matter which political party joins the government.
He also urged the state to remain within the ambit of the constitution on the issue of press freedom.
Likewise, Director General of the Department of Information and Broadcasting, Gogan Bahadur Hamal shared that the press should encourage the government and citizens towards the positive paths, adding press could influence all bodies of the state.
Former FNJ Presidents—Taranath Dahal, Dharmendra Jha, Dr Mahendra Bista, FNJ senior vice-president Ramesh Bista and general-secretary Roshan Puri stressed that bodies concerned should pay attention to address the problems of working journalists.
