US Congressional delegation in Kathmandu to discuss climate change and Russian invasion of Ukraine (audio report)

April 23, Kathmandu: A US high-ranking Congressional delegation arrived in Kathmandu on Friday for an official visit to Nepal as a part of the ongoing bilateral partnership between Nepal and the United States.

Issuing a press note, the US Embassy in Kathmandu confirmed the arrival of the US leaders coinciding with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of US-Nepal diplomatic ties.

The delegation led by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand – includes Senators Sheldon Whitehouse, Cory Booker, Mark Kelly, and Representative Mondaire Jones.

The group of lawmakers have focused their visit on learning about the impacts of climate change in the Himalayan region.

The delegation led by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand will meet Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and other government officials and political leaders and discuss a range of issues.

According to the US Embassy, the visit is part of a longer trip by the delegation, which has included visiting Poland in order to learn how the US can continue to support Ukraine and NATO allies against the Russian invasion.

Nepal has joined the majority of countries in condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
