Engineers’ role crucial in country’s prosperity, infrastructure development: Minister Shrestha

Kathmandu: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, has asserted that the country’s prosperity, infrastructure development and quality of public services depend on the role of skilled, honest and accountable engineers.

Addressing the newly-recruited engineers in government services at a programme organised here on Monday, Minister Shrestha mentioned that joining the government service is not merely the beginning of a job, but is a historic opportunity to dedicate oneself to the nation-building campaigns.

“Since every decision, technical suggestion and act directly impacts the lives of hundreds of thousands of citizens, one must work with a great sense of responsibility,” Minister Shrestha instructed the engineers.

Stating that the history of a nation’s development, civilisation and prosperity is connected with engineers’ creativity, research, discipline and tireless work, the Energy Minister expressed the view that the construction of roads, bridges, power projects, transmission lines, irrigation projects, drinking water facilities, industrial structures and modern cities depends on the vision and capability of engineers.

He further said moral courage sometimes becomes more important than technical proficiency in government services as character is equally important along with knowledge in serving the nation.

Minister Shrestha argued that the country expects a new concept, positive energy, leadership quality and result-oriented working style from new generation engineers.
