Kathmandu: The government has issued the National Transport Policy, 2083, replacing the provisions that had remained unchanged for nearly 25 years.

The Ministry of Infrastructure Development stated that the new policy aims to ensure a sustainable, accessible, safe, green and technology-friendly transportation system through the development of an integrated transport network.

According to the Ministry, the policy prioritises the development of a modern and efficient transportation system by maintaining a balance among different modes of transport, including road, rail, waterways, and aviation.

Infrastructure Development Minister Sunil Lamsal said the new policy emphasises improving the quality of public transportation, enhancing road safety, promoting the use of environment-friendly technology and expanding digital systems.

It is said that the policy was revised in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to address changing technological dynamics, urbanisation and climate change.
