Heavy Rain Likely in Parts of Gandaki and Bagmati as Monsoon Remains Active

Kathmandu, Aug. 3: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast continued monsoon activity across Nepal, with the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Gandaki and Bagmati provinces.

According to the department’s latest weather bulletin, the country is expected to remain generally cloudy under the influence of the monsoon and a low-pressure system. Light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely in many hilly areas, while some Himalayan regions may receive light to moderate rain or snowfall.

Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is also forecast for many places in the Terai of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as parts of Madhesh Province. Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two locations in the hilly and Himalayan areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, with very heavy rainfall possible in some hilly areas of Bagmati and Gandaki.

Weather conditions are expected to remain similar tonight, with light to moderate rain or snowfall also likely in parts of the Himalayan region of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki, and in isolated areas of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.

The department has urged the public to remain alert, warning that intense rainfall could trigger flash floods, landslides and soil erosion. It also cautioned that the weather may disrupt transportation, agriculture, tourism and other daily activities, and advised people to follow official weather updates.
