NC Pledges Strong Provinces, Prosperous Nation Through Upcoming Elections

Morang, Feb 9 (RSS) — Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said the party will take the lead in strengthening provinces and steering the country toward prosperity by amending the Constitution through the upcoming elections.

Addressing a Koshi Province–level cadres’ meeting and interaction, President Thapa stressed the need to strengthen the governance system, making it strong, accountable, and responsive to public aspirations, saying this could only be achieved by securing a fresh mandate from the people.

He urged party leaders and election candidates to engage directly with citizens and win their trust by committing to ending bad governance, curbing corruption, ensuring equality, creating opportunities for youth, and building a prosperous Nepal through good governance.

“Through a transformed Nepali Congress, we have presented a clear roadmap to end bad governance and establish the rule of law,” Thapa said, adding that the party would move forward by respecting the sentiments of citizens, particularly the younger generation. He emphasised the need for accountable governance, stronger state institutions, and reforms in bodies such as the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), courts, and the Office of the Attorney General to make services more accessible to the public.

Thapa also said the Congress would work to prevent the country from slipping into another conflict while laying the foundation for long-term reforms. He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to protecting the rights and interests of Dalits, Muslims, minorities, Madhesis, and women, as well as safeguarding religion and culture.

Speaking at the same programme, NC General Secretary Gururaj Ghimire said party members have united after organisational restructuring to move ahead in the elections, adding that internal differences would be resolved constructively for better results. He noted that with new leadership, the party is addressing national challenges and the issues raised by the Gen Z uprising, with a focus on making Nepalis dignified and self-reliant.

Similarly, NC leader Dr Shekhar Koirala said the party, with its firm commitment to democracy, would work sincerely to ensure a prosperous future for all Nepalis. He added that Congress would collaborate with all stakeholders to fulfil the key demands of the Gen Z movement, including good governance, an end to corruption, and sustained prosperity.

Also addressing the gathering were Assistant General Secretary Dr Dila Sangraula and leaders Sarita Prasai, Bhishma Raj Angdambe, Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar, and other NC candidates contesting the House of Representatives elections in Koshi Province.
