No Alternative to Elections in Current Context: NCP Coordinator Dahal

Dhorpatan (Baglung), Feb 11: Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that elections are the only viable option in the present political situation.

Addressing a public dialogue programme in Dhorpatan on Tuesday, former Prime Minister Dahal stated that the country can overcome the ongoing crisis only through elections.

He clarified that his party has not given importance to proposals floated by some political groups regarding the reinstatement of Parliament or the formation of an all-party government.

“This election was not our choice. We had initially planned to hold elections in 2084 BS, but the current polls were announced under extraordinary circumstances. Now, the only option is to make the best use of this opportunity,” Dahal said.

He added that his party has been making sincere efforts to protect the country from growing complexities and to safeguard the hard-earned achievements secured through long struggle and sacrifice.

Dahal also alleged that both national and international vested interests have contributed to instability and destruction in the country, despite the Gen Z movement being launched with the goals of ending corruption, ensuring good governance, and protecting civil liberties.

Stressing the need for political cohesion, he underlined the importance of unity among leftist forces to lead the country towards meaningful change.
