World Teachers’ Day today!

October 5, Kathmandu: World Teachers’ Day is being observed worldwide on Thursday to honour the invaluable contributions of teachers.

Designated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) since 1994, October 5 is a day dedicated to recognizing and appreciating the teacher community globally.

The significance of this day lies in commemorating the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. This recommendation establishes crucial benchmarks for the rights and responsibilities of teachers, as well as standards for their initial preparation, ongoing education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions.

This year’s theme is “The Teachers We Need for the Education We Want: The Global Imperative to Reverse the Teacher Shortage.”

The Nepal Teachers’ Federation has extended its best wishes to all teachers and staff members on this occasion. It hopes that this day will serve as an inspiration for the entire teacher community to collectively advocate for the government’s progression on the School Education Bill, aligning with the agreements reached with teachers on September 22.
