Home Minister Sudhan Gurung warns officials against leaking state secrets

Kathmandu: Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has warned that anyone found misusing or leaking confidential state information will be brought to justice.

In a statement posted on Facebook today, Minister Gurung said he had been observing a tendency among officials and employees of the Ministry of Home Affairs and its subordinate agencies to neglect their responsibilities and share sensitive information with unauthorised individuals or entities.

He said confidential state information is a public responsibility, not anyone’s personal property, and that access to such information by virtue of one’s position does not give anyone the right to misuse it.

Minister Gurung stressed that even seemingly minor information obtained within the ministry could be crucial to preventing crimes, supporting investigations and establishing facts in serious incidents.

He made it clear that anyone who knowingly violates the confidentiality entrusted to them by the state and their organisation would not be granted immunity and would be held legally accountable.
