Passenger help desk set up at Jamunaha border point

Banke, Oct 6: The district administration in Banke has set up a passenger help desk at the Jamunaha border point to assist Nepalis returning home from India for the upcoming Dashain and Tihar festivals.

The number of Nepali workers and other passengers entering Nepal from India has started increasing with the major festivals approaching.

Chief District Officer of Banke Dil Kumar Tamang said the help desk was established to prevent possible incidents of robbery, fraud and other criminal activities targeting returning passengers.

“We have prioritised the safety of citizens and implemented a security plan after identifying possible risks,” Tamang said. He added that the help desk would coordinate with concerned agencies and provide necessary information and assistance to passengers crossing the border.

District Police Chief of Banke, Angur GC, said the initiative would help prevent criminal activities that could take place by taking advantage of the increased movement of passengers during the festive season.

Similar help desks will also be operated at the bus parks in Nepalgunj and Kohalpur to provide information and assistance to Nepalis returning from India for Dashain.

Personnel from Nepal Police and Traffic Police have been mobilised at the help desks.
