National gathering proposed on Aug 5 to ‘connect NC with country’

Kathmandu: In view of the widening rift in the Nepali Congress (NC) with two visible factions- one favouring the leadership elected via a special general convention and another favouring the leadership elected via the 14th general convention- a national gathering has been called for August 5 in a bid to patch up the difference and connect NC with the country and people.

The national gathering is proposed by the ‘Campaign to connect NC with country’. The campaign insisted on forging unity with the party, thereby reviving party life and organisation.

Organising a press conference in the federal capital on Sunday, Nepali Congress leader and National Assembly member Ranjit Karna viewed that NC president Gagan Kumar Thapa and another faction, having coordinator Dr Sashank Koirala, must stand together.

Former central member of the party, Nain Singh Mahar, said the gathering was being organised to strengthen democracy and nationality and cement party organisation. As many as 1,359 representatives have registered their names for participation.

Local-level leader Anand Tripathi urged people’s representatives from NC to engage in connecting NC with the country.
