Speaker Aryal stresses stronger diplomacy amid changing global context

Kathmandu, May 8: Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal has said the importance of international relations and diplomatic engagement has further increased in the present global situation.

Addressing a programme organised on Friday on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the Nepal Council of World Affairs (NCWA), Speaker Aryal said Nepal should prioritise national interest through effective economic diplomacy and development-oriented foreign relations.

He said Nepal’s diplomatic approach should focus on strengthening cultural ties, promoting tourism, and addressing both challenges and opportunities emerging in the global context, including post-pandemic impacts on travel, tourism, and heritage conservation.

The Speaker also highlighted the importance of Nepal’s non-aligned foreign policy in enhancing the country’s global image and supporting economic prosperity. He appreciated NCWA’s long-standing contribution to policy discussions, research, and strengthening Nepal’s international engagement.

On the occasion, Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal said Nepal’s foreign policy is now directly linked to citizens’ daily lives, including the safety and dignity of migrant workers. He said the country must adapt to global challenges such as supply chain disruptions and energy security while safeguarding sovereignty.

NCWA Chair Dr. Suresh Malla said the Council has served as an independent think tank for nearly eight decades, contributing to policy dialogue and research. He also called for an end to global conflicts, saying their impacts are increasingly interconnected.

A journal featuring 19 articles on “International Scenario and its Impact on Nepal” was also launched during the programme.
