“Nepal has become a beacon of hope”: EU Ambassador at Europe Day 2026

May 9, Kathmandu: The Delegation of the European Union to Nepal marked Europe Day 2026 in Lalitpur on Friday, with Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav attending the event as chief guest. Government officials, diplomats, businesspersons, journalists, social workers and people from different walks of life were present at the celebration.
Addressing the gathering, EU Ambassador to Nepal Veronique Lorenzo said Nepal had become a “beacon of hope” following its peaceful democratic transition and the rise of a new generation of young leaders committed to change.
She said the European Union would continue supporting Nepal’s prosperity agenda through cooperation in clean energy, climate resilience, education, skills development and job creation. Ambassador Lorenzo stressed that creating jobs for Nepali youth should remain a national priority.

Speaking on global affairs, she said the international rules-based order was facing increasing pressure from conflicts, disinformation and economic coercion, adding that the EU remained committed to democracy, international law and multilateral cooperation.
As her tenure nears its end, Ambassador Lorenzo said she would continue to remain “an ambassador for Nepal” even after leaving the country.
