Agriculture Minister stresses stronger role in food quality assurance
Kathmandu, May 8: Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, and Forest and Environment Gita Chaudhary has stressed the need to strengthen food quality assurance mechanisms in the country.
During her visit to the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control on Friday, Minister Chaudhary urged the department to make its services more efficient, transparent, and effective. She said ensuring food quality is essential for protecting public health, noting that citizens’ health and hygiene depend on proper quality standards.
The Minister also highlighted the importance of improving nutrition and promoting exports through the use of modern food technology. She acknowledged that regulatory responsibilities in the sector are becoming increasingly challenging.
Minister Chaudhary appreciated the department’s efforts in regular market monitoring, food quality testing, development of food technology, and action against those violating standards.
