Nepal knocked out of T20 World Cup group stage after loss to West Indies

Mumbai: Nepal has been knocked out of the group stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after suffering a nine-wicket defeat against West Indies at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.

This was Nepal’s third consecutive loss in Group C, leaving the team without a point. With their third straight win, West Indies have advanced to the Super Eights and now top the group with six points. England are second with four points, while Scotland and Italy have two points each.

Chasing a target of 134 runs, West Indies reached the total in 15.2 overs, losing just one wicket. Captain Shai Hope scored an unbeaten 60, while Shimron Hetmyer remained not out on 46. Nepal’s Nandan Yadav took the lone wicket.

Earlier, Nepal scored 133 for eight after being put in to bat. Vice-captain Dipendra Singh Airee top-scored with 58 runs, becoming the second Nepali player to hit a half-century in a T20 World Cup.

Nepal will play its final group match against Scotland on February 20 in what will now be a match of pride.
