News writing workshop concludes at St. Xavier’s College

Kathmandu: A three-day News Writing Workshop 2026 concluded on Wednesday at the PTA Lab of St. Xavier’s College, Maitighar, with the participation of journalism students from St. Xavier’s and community colleges in the Kathmandu Valley.

The workshop focused on story pitching, reporting, investigative journalism, and the ethical use of AI tools in news writing. It aimed to provide students with practical newsroom skills through hands-on exercises and interactive discussions.

Speaking at the closing session, Principal Fr. Dr. Augustine Thomas S.J. said the workshop emphasized learning through practice and helped students strengthen responsible and fact-based reporting.

Kunda Dixit, publisher of Nepali Times and adjunct professor at NYU Abu Dhabi, highlighted the importance of reading in developing strong journalistic writing and contextual understanding of facts.

Faculty Lead Chun Bahadur Gurung noted that while AI tools are increasingly used in journalism, writing remains central to communication, adding that the workshop has been organized since 2021 to prepare students for a changing media landscape.

The workshop was facilitated by media professionals including Sonia Awale, Rajneesh Bhandari, and Prabesh Subedi. A total of 32 students participated. The annual event was organized in collaboration with the Nepal Multimedia Investigative Journalism Network (NIMJN).
