HoR Election in 79 Days: 100 Parties Apply for PR System

With 79 days remaining for the House of Representatives (HoR) election, the Election Commission (EC) has stepped up election preparations.

The Commission said 100 political parties have applied to take part in the proportional representation (PR) electoral system. These applications were submitted out of the 114 parties already registered for the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system, within the deadline set for the PR category of the HoR election scheduled for March 5.

The EC has also assigned election symbols to the parties registered under the PR system. The registration window for parties seeking participation in the proportional election was open from December 7 to 9.

Under the mixed electoral system, 165 members of the 275-member House of Representatives will be elected through direct elections, while the remaining 110 members will be chosen through the proportional representation system.
