UML National Congress: Leadership voting deferred to Wednesday morning
Kathmandu, Dec 16: Voting to elect new leadership at the 11th National Congress of the CPN (UML) will now take place on Wednesday morning.
Sanuraj Pokharel, vice-chair of the party’s Central Election Commission, said the voting process, which was scheduled to begin on Tuesday evening, was postponed due to a technical issue with the electronic voting machines. Voting is now set to start at 8:00 am on Wednesday.
Earlier, delegates had already lined up as preparations were underway to begin voting in the evening.
According to the party, around 660 candidates have registered their nominations for the 301-member executive committee. A total of 80 electronic voting machines will be used for the election.
Altogether 2,263 delegates are eligible to cast their votes at the congress, which will see a contest for the party chair between incumbent chair KP Sharma Oli and senior vice-chair Ishwor Pokharel.
