Health camp benefits residents of Upper Mustang

Mustang, Dec 17: Residents of Upper Mustang have benefited from a health camp organized to support people staying in high-altitude villages during the harsh winter season.

The camp provided health services to locals residing in Namasung and Nyanol villages of Lomanthang–2, Mustang, who continue to live in the area despite extreme cold. While most residents of Upper Mustang usually migrate to lower regions during winter to escape freezing temperatures, some families without alternatives remain in the upper belt.

The health camp was jointly organized by the Area Conservation Office of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) in Lomanthang, the Armed Police Force Border Outpost, and the Police Post at Chhoser.

According to ACAP Lomanthang Chief Umesh Paudel, the camp aimed to raise awareness about health risks caused by cold weather and ways to stay warm. He said locals are prone to illnesses such as common cold, fever, and cough during winter. Participants received general health check-ups and free medicines.

A total of 22 people, including 19 women and three men, received services from the health camp.
