Three people from Rupandehi killed in car accident in India

Bhairahawa (Rupandehi): Three people were killed when a car carrying Nepali citizens met with an accident in India. They were travelling to Prayagraj, India to participate in the Mahakumbha religious festival.

According to the District Police Office, Rupandehi’s Superintendent of Police Ranjit Singh Rathore, the deceased have been identified as 45-year-old Ganesh Khanal, his wife 40-year-old Deepa Khanal, and 45-year-old Geeta Sharma, of Bhaluhi, Devdaha municipality-9 in Rupandehi.

The car they were travelling in collided with a roadside divider near Azamgarh in India while they were returning after taking a holy bath at the site of the Mahakumbh religious fair in Prayagraj.

Five other people have been injured in the accident and they are being treated at Azamgarh and Gorakhpur of India, police said. A 35-member team from Devdaha municipality-9 had gone to take a holy bath at the Kumbh Mela.

The team was travelling in five cars and one of the cars met the accident on the Banaras-Azamgarh highway while returning home. The bodies have been kept at a local hospital for post-mortem and the Indian police are being contacted regularly, SP Rathour said.
