Japanese ambassador Toru pays courtesy call on PM Shah

Kathmandu: Japanese Ambassador to Nepal, Toru Maeda, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Wednesday.

During the meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singhadurbar, PM Shah expressed his gratitude and appreciation to his Japanese counterpart Sanae Takaichi and Japanese foreign minister Toshimitsu Motegi for their goodwill, solidarity, sympathy and condolences shown to the flood survivors in Nepal.

PM Shah also thanked Japan government for providing humanitarian aid materials and grant assistance through JICA considering grief and emergency in Nepal. Japan is a major development partner of Nepal, Shah said, expressing hope of similar cooperation for post-disaster reconstruction and rehabilitation.

On the occasion, ambassador Toru expressed commitment to supporting Nepal for the rehabilitation of disaster-hit people and reconstruction efforts. He stressed the need for further scientific study and research behind the causes of flood disasters in Nepal.

Stating that there is a multidimensional relationship between Nepal and Japan, ambassador Toru put forth his views on bilateral cooperation in areas such as infrastructure development, technology transfer and educational reform. Japan is a key development partner of Nepal for decades.
