Nepal, Guinea-Bissau establish diplomatic relations

Kathmandu: Nepal and the Republic of Guinea-Bissau have established diplomatic relations. With this, number of countries having diplomatic relations with Nepal has reached 184.

Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations, Lok Bahadur Thapa, and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau to the United Nations, Samba Sane, on Tuesday (September 1) signed on the joint statement related to establishment of diplomatic relations, according to the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations.

On the occasion, both ambassadors exchanged views on various issues of shared interest in national and international forums for mutual benefit of both countries, especially in the UN, and strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Guinea-Bissau is a tropical country on West Africa’s Atlantic Coast. It borders Senegal to the north and Guinea to the east and south and has around 2.2 million population. The total area of the country is 36,125 square kilometers.

Guinea-Bissau achieved independency on September 10, 1974 and got membership of the United Nations on September 17 same year.

Both—Nepal and Guinea-Bissau are least developed countries and both of them are member of Group of 77 and Non-Aligned Movement.
