HPV vaccine is completely safe, effective: Minister Paudel

Kathmandu: Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, has clarified the statement that the Human Papilloma Virus vaccine against cervical cancer was administered as a trial is baseless.

The studies about the HPV vaccine carried out so far showed that the vaccine is safe and has no serious side effects, he argued. In the course of responding to queries raised in today’s meeting of the National Assembly, shared, ‘This vaccine protects against HPV infection that causes cervical cancer. The vaccine is safe and effective and no serious type of side effect has been reported so far.’

NA member Madan Kumari Sah (Garima) questioned, ‘How safe is the HPV vaccine given to the adolescent girls from the point of view of complete health and when will the government make arrangements for this vaccine for men?’

Saying the other countries have started administering the vaccine to men, Minister Paudel mentioned that homework was underway on whether it could be available from supporting countries. The government had launched a nationwide campaign from February 4, where 1.4 million girls were vaccinated against HPV so far.
