Parsa, Jan 20: The Madhes Province has produced 45,571 metric tonnes of fish in the fiscal year 2080/81 BS.

According to a report by the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the production of fish increased by 5.04 percent in the last fiscal year in the districts of the Madhes Province compared to the fiscal year 2079/80 BS. As per the report, Bara district produced the highest quantity of fish with 22.43 percent, while Parsa district has the lowest contribution to fish production in the province with 7.99 percent.

However, the farmers have complained of limited marketing and pricing for fish. “Imports from India were high. Now, the local production is increasing. But we lack technical expertise on fishery and fingerling,” said Dinanath Sah, a farmer from Pakahamainapur in Parsa. Meanwhile, the NRB stated that the production of milk too has increased in the province. Production of milk increased to 654,123 liters in the fiscal year 2080/81 BS.
