Roshi River crosses danger mark, public urged to refrain visiting river areas

Kavrepalanchowk: Water level in the Roshi River has risen significantly following the incessant rainfall since Thursday, crossing the danger mark.

However, river’s water level fluctuated throughout Friday, according to the Flood Information Centre, Panauti under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

The river crossed the danger mark at 5:00 pm on Friday, posing a risk of floods and inundation in the areas along the river and downstream. As of 5:55 pm, the river’s water current had reached 4.52 metres.

Amidst this development, Chief District Officer Gopal Kumar Adhikari appealed to the public not to visit the river area for any purposes including for making Tiktok videos, reels and photos.

Meanwhile, floodwaters from the Roshi River washed away temporary diversions at two locations along the BP Highway in Kavrepalanchok. Traffic along the highway has been disrupted by landslides.

With the highway in a risky condition caused by floods and landslides, traffic movement has halted since Friday morning.

Meanwhile, the Kavrepalanchowk section along the BP Highway has been closed at night since Thursday, bearing in mind the adverse weather conditions forecasted by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

According to the District Administration Office, Dhulikhel, traffic could be also suspended even during the day depending on the flood and landslide situation, while for the time being, vehicular movement has been restricted from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am until Sunday.
