Six die of Japanese encephalitis in Jhapa
Jhapa: The death toll from Japanese encephalitis has risen to six in Jhapa district.
A 64-year-old woman from Mechinagar Municipality-8 died from the infection last week, according to Bishwanath Shrestha, a public health inspector at the District Health Office.
With the latest death, the number of Japanese encephalitis cases in Jhapa has reached 11. So far, four women and two men have died from the infection.
Shrestha said the District Health Office has expanded testing for Japanese encephalitis in different parts of the district.
Health worker teams have also been deployed continuously to monitor the situation and identify possible cases.
