Nepal Telecom launches 4G Service in Sinja Valley

KATHMANDU, Aug 21: Nepal Telecom has officially brought 4G mobile service to Hat Sinja in Jumla—a historic region renowned as the birthplace of the Khas (Nepali) language. The high-speed network went live today in the Guthiyula market area under Kanakasundari Rural Municipality.
According to Paras Pujara, Chief of the Nepal Telecom Jumla Office, the service was operationalized following the construction and setup of a new telecom tower. The newly established tower extends 4G connectivity across Wards 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8 of Kanakasundari Rural Municipality, covering key local areas including Gauri, Okharwada, Hat Sinja, Simpati, Ludku, Guthiyula Market, Baduwalwada, Barkudiwada, Sanjelwada, Jach, and Godingal.
Although construction was completed over two months ago, service activation was delayed due to the lack of national power grid connectivity in the remote terrain. To avoid further delay, Nepal Telecom deployed a solar battery system to power the site temporarily.
The expansion aligns with the government’s strategic focus on extending telecom infrastructure to remote and tourist areas to bridge the digital divide. As part of this initiative, Nepal Telecom expects to activate 4G service at the Badimalika Temple site in Bajura within the week, while feasibility studies are underway to bring 4G coverage to the Everest Base Camp region.
These rollouts build on previous high-altitude network expansions, including Lhan in Tripurasundari-6 and Dunai in Thulibheri-1 in Dolpa (at 3,900 meters above sea level), as well as Olangchunggola in Taplejung (at 3,400 meters). Nationwide, construction is underway for approximately 1,600 new mobile towers, supported by Nepal Telecom’s planned investment of over NPR 6 billion in the current fiscal year alone.
