Security agencies normalizing situation following Dewanganj incident

Kathmandu, July 31: Security officials have said adverse situation emerged after the Dewanganj incident is gradually returning normal.

The effective mobilization of security forces along with coordination and cooperation among all three security agencies, including the Nepal Army has reinforced the government bid to restore peace and order.

Eastern Division Chief of Nepal Army, Gaurav Kumar KC, informed that peace and security in the affected area was getting normalized gradually and the security forces were on ‘high alert’. “The challenges to the peace and security situation are decreasing,” he told RSS.

Security officials have argued that it was easier for them to normalize security situation after Home Minister Sudhan Gurung reached the incident site and created atmosphere to sign an agreement with the victim’s family and met the injured ones. A seven-point agreement was reached between the Home Minister and the victim’s family last night. As per the agreement, the body of the deceased was collected and process of performing last rites forwarded.

Deputy Inspector General of the Armed Police, Manish Thapa, said the peace and security situation in the eastern Terai was returning normal because all three security forces were being mobilized in cooperation and coordination. “Overall, the peace and security situation is under control. Efforts are on to ensure further coordination in all areas,” he said.

All three security agencies are conducting detailed analysis, study and monitoring of the incident. Curfew is still in effect in some parts of Sunsari, Dhanusha, Siraha, Parsa and other districts. A committee formed to investigate the recent incidents is also carrying out its duty.

Spokesperson at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Anand Kafle, shared information that the government’s efforts were concentrated on strengthening the security system and maintaining social harmony. He said discussions were held various religious leaders under the chairmanship of the Secretary at Home Ministry.

Senior police officers assigned responsibilities

Central Spokesperson of the Nepal Police, Abinarayan Kafle, informed that senior police officials were assigned responsibilities in the districts of Madhes Province to equip the security arrangement in view of the situation that surfaced after the incident in Kaptanganj, Sunsari.

In view of security sensitivity, senior officers were assigned in the area so that they could implement security plans, collect and analyze information, and work in the field. They would work for further coordination among the concerned Provincial Police Offices and District Police Offices in a bid to normalize the situation, according to Kafle.

The Secretariat of the Inspector General of Nepal Police, shared information that Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Police, Siddhi Bikram Shah, was given responsibility for Banke, while AIG Himalaya Kumar Shrestha for Madhes, AIG Uma Prasad Chaturvedi for Kapilvastu and AIG Ishwor Karki for Koshi Province/Sunsari, and Deputy Inspector Generals of Police Dinesh Kumar Acharya for Siraha and Abinarayan Kafle for Saptari.

Similarly, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gopal Chandra Bhattarai has been given the responsibility in Sarlahi, SSP Somendra Singh Rathore in Parsa, SSP Dip Shamsher Jb Rana in Rautahat, SSP Nawaraj Adhikari in Chitwan, SSP Krishna Prasad Pangeni in Mahottari, SSP Hobindra Bogati in Bara, Gyanendra Prasad Phuyal in Morang, SSP Bhuvaneshwor Tiwari in Dhanusha and SSP Amarendra Bahadur Singh in Madhesh.
