Public Transport and Freight Fares Increased Following Fuel Price Hike
Kathmandu, April 8: The government has revised fares for public transport and freight vehicles in response to rising fuel prices.
The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Management approved the fare adjustment after discussions with stakeholders. The decision follows a recent hike in petroleum prices, prompting transport operators to seek a revision.
According to Ganeshman Singh Rai, Information Officer at the Department of Transport Management, the new fare rates were determined through mutual agreement and based on 13 different indicators.
Saroj Sitaula, Senior Vice President of the Nepal National Federation of Transport Entrepreneurs, said the adjustment was made in line with the federation’s request.
As per the revised structure, passenger vehicle fares have increased by 16.71 percent. Similarly, freight charges for vehicles operating in hilly regions have gone up by 21.68 percent, while those in the Tarai region have risen by 15.75 percent.
