CM Baniya Calls for Strong Focus on Environment Protection

Makwanpur, Dec 21: Bagmati Province Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya has stressed the need to prioritize environmental conservation while implementing physical infrastructure projects.

Speaking at a programme organized by the Nepali Congress Makwanpur chapter and its Manahari committee in Manahari on Sunday, CM Baniya said local governments should play a more proactive role in safeguarding ecology to ensure the sustainable coexistence of humans and wildlife. He added that the provincial government is prepared to amend existing laws and policies, if necessary, to strengthen good governance and build a corruption-free society.

Referring to the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election scheduled for March 5, 2026, the Chief Minister said the time has come for all stakeholders to help create a favourable election environment. While noting that the federal government bears primary responsibility for ensuring such conditions, he urged collective efforts to support the democratic process.

CM Baniya also opposed calls by some Nepali Congress leaders to reinstate the dissolved HoR, urging the party’s top leadership to remain united and move forward with the March 5 election.

Other party leaders, including Santa Bahadur Praja, Ranjan Kalakheti, Buddha Lama and Prakash Bartaula, said the focus should now be on strengthening the party organization in line with its core policies and principles.

Meanwhile, CM Baniya contributed Rs 75,000 from his personal funds to the management committee for the construction of the Manakamana Temple in Manahari.
