Nepali Army reiterates commitment to constitution and democratic system

December 22, Kathmandu: The Nepali Army (NA) has reaffirmed its firm commitment to the Constitution and the democratic system, stating that it fully respected the decisions of the President and the Executive while helping normalize the situation following the recent Gen Z movement.
In an explanatory article provided to the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) on Sunday, the NA said that as a major state institution, it had a responsibility to facilitate dialogue among stakeholders to prevent the crisis from escalating further.
Addressing questions raised over its role during the critical period, the NA clarified that it neither pursued any political agenda nor showed any ambition to interfere in state power. “Despite criticism over the positive coordination and dialogue initiatives taken at a sensitive time, the Nepali Army never acted beyond its constitutional mandate,” the article said.
The NA stressed that it always operates under the government and remains dedicated to national unity and security. “With an unwavering commitment to the letter and spirit of the Constitution, the Nepali Army continues to work within the democratic framework,” it stated.
The security institution also noted that its facilitation helped end the political vacuum created in the wake of the Gen Z movement, while firmly rejecting claims of political intent.
Calling for objective and responsible analysis, the NA said constructive assessment strengthens state institutions and serves the broader national interest.
