UML 11th National Congress: Voting for New Leadership Underway Today
Kathmandu, Dec 16: Delegates of the 11th National Congress of the CPN (UML) are casting their votes today to elect the party’s new leadership.
Chair of the UML Central Election Commission, Dr Bijaya Subba, said voting is scheduled to begin this afternoon. The election will be conducted through electronic voting, with 80 voting machines arranged for the process.
Managing Director of Ram Laxman Innovation Pvt Ltd, Laxman Rimal, informed that the company is currently uploading the candidates’ details into the system. He said efforts are being made to complete the task and hand over the system to the Election Commission on time. However, he noted that the voting process could be slightly delayed due to the large number of candidates.
Candidates seeking posts of office-bearers and central committee members registered their nominations on Monday. The final voter list was also published the same day.
The congress is set to elect a 301-member central committee. Voting will take place at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu.
Party Chairperson KP Sharma Oli and Senior Vice-Chairperson Ishwar Pokharel are contesting for the top leadership position.
