PMC Marks 67th Establishment Day Today

Kaski, Dec 17: Pokhara Metropolitan City (PMC) is celebrating its 67th establishment day today, following a recent change in the official date of its founding.

Until last year, the day was observed on Fagun 27 of the Nepali calendar. However, the local authorities revised it after reviewing historical records, which confirmed that Pokhara municipality was established on Poush 2, 2016 BS, with an initial population of around 5,000. It was later designated a municipal panchayat on its 364th day.

As part of the celebration, PMC is honoring nine individuals from Pokhara for their notable contributions in fields including language, literature, arts, education, health, agriculture, science and technology, sports, tourism, social service, and environmental protection. Each awardee, titled ‘Navratna,’ is receiving Rs 200,202 in cash, along with a copper plaque, shawl, and medal.

The day’s events also feature a morning rally from Chipledhunga to Sabha Griha, accompanied by cultural performances.
