PM Oli hails successful China visit, raises concerns regarding Nepali territories

September 4, Kathmandu: Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli has declared his five-day visit to China, from August 30 to September 3, 2025, a success, having strengthened Nepal-China ties and advanced Nepal’s role in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO.

Invited by Chinese President Xi Jinping, Oli led a Nepali delegation to the SCO Summit in Tianjin, where he raised concerns over the recent India-China agreement on Lipulekh border trade, urging its non-implementation, according to a press note issued by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MoFA).

In talks with Xi on August 30, Oli emphasised Nepal-China relations based on peaceful coexistence, thanking China for its consistent support. He sought full SCO membership and accelerated Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) projects, alongside cooperation in agriculture, climate resilience, human resources, and people-to-people ties.

Xi reaffirmed China’s commitment to Nepal’s “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali” vision and high-quality BRI projects. PM Oli addressed the SCO Plus Summit, engaging leaders from Russia, Laos, the Maldives, Vietnam, and Cambodia to enhance trade, tourism, and education ties.

He visited Tianjin’s agricultural sites and Beijing’s historical landmarks, attending a ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of China’s victory against Japanese aggression. Nepal thanked China for its hospitality and commended the media’s coverage.
