Traffic halted on seven road sections across country

Kathmandu: Traffic has been disrupted on several road sections across the country due to floods, landslides, debris and river erosion following heavy rainfall, according to Nepal Police.

As of 10 am today, road sections in Kavrepalanchok, Sindhuli, Makawanpur, Nuwakot, Ilam, Sindhupalchok, Rasuwa and Rukum West have been affected.

On the BP Highway, traffic has been halted between Khurkot, Nepalthok, Katunje Bensi and Sindhuli from 6 pm to 4 am due to the risk of flooding. Vehicles will be allowed to operate from 4 am to 6 pm.

Similarly, all vehicles have been prohibited from operating on the Kanti Lokpath in Makawanpur from 5 pm to 5 am due to rainfall.

On the Tokha–Chhahare road section in Nuwakot, public and private vehicles, except those providing essential services, have been barred from operating between 10 pm and 5 am.

The Mechi Highway at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality-9 has been completely blocked due to mud deposited by rain. An alternative route is available.

The Araniko Highway at Liping Bazaar in Sindhupalchok has also remained completely blocked since August 21 after a landslide and debris and stones deposited by the Khahare River.

In Rasuwa, the Trishuli–Mailung–Syafrubesi road section at Khalte in Uttar Gaya Rural Municipality-5 has been completely blocked after the Trishuli River eroded the road from below.

Meanwhile, the Jajarkot–Dolpa section of the Bheri Corridor at Rijegad Khola in Aathbiskot Municipality-6, Rukum West, has been blocked after stones, soil and debris fell onto the road.

Nepal Police has urged motorists and passengers to exercise caution while travelling, as rainfall has increased the risk of further road blockages and other hazards.
