On Air Station:

Monsoon Becomes Active in Five Provinces Across Nepal

Kathmandu: After a sluggish start, the monsoon system that entered Nepal earlier than usual has now become active in five provinces, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

The Weather Forecasting Division confirmed on Thursday that monsoon activity has been recorded in various parts of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces.

Meteorologist Govinda Jha stated that while the monsoon has become active in parts of Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, it remains limited to certain areas in Lumbini.

This year, the monsoon entered Nepal through Koshi Province on May 29, nearly two weeks ahead of the average date of June 13. However, it remained weak in the days following its early arrival.

“Although it has now picked up pace in several regions, it may take a few more days for the monsoon to become active across the remaining provinces,” Jha added.

The monsoon plays a crucial role in Nepal’s agriculture-dependent economy, with its timely and widespread activity essential for crop production and water resources.
