East-West Highway blocked due to flooding in Dumkibas, Nawalparasi

Triveni, Nawalparasi: A section of the East-West Highway has been blocked in Dumkibas, located in Nawalparasi (East of Bardaghat Susta), after flooding washed away a temporary diversion route on Thursday morning.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Madhu Nepal of the District Police Office, the diversion was swept away by floodwaters, halting all vehicular movement in the area. “The situation remains critical, and movement cannot resume immediately as the floodwaters have not yet receded,” he said.

In the meantime, smaller and passenger vehicles are being rerouted via the winter alternative route through Hongsi Gate to maintain limited connectivity.

Shiva Khanal, Information Officer at the Butwal-Narayangadh Road Expansion Project, informed that a new permanent bridge has already been constructed in the area. “The bridge is expected to become operational within the next two weeks,” he added, expressing hope for a more lasting solution to the disruption.
