Border points in Jhapa tightened after COVID-19 infection reported

Bhadrapur (Jhapa): Surveillance has been increased in Jhapa district after cases of COVID-19 infection were reported in neighbouring India.

A decision was taken to make surveillance and coronavirus tests effective at border points, given the possible risk of the infection. A meeting of the District Health Risk Management Committee held on Sunday under the chairmanship of Chief District Officer Gopal Kumar Adhikari decided to add human resources and make the health desk set up at the entry points well-equipped.

Chief of District Health Office, Jhapa, Ramesh Barakoti, shared that a circular has been sent to all local levels in the district to make necessary preparations and adopt precautionary measures to prevent coronavirus infection.

The hospitals and health institutions have been directed to stay prepared, make arrangements for quarantine and run public awareness programmes, he added.

Barakoti mentioned that health workers should carry out tests on those entering Nepal from the border points, considering the possible coronavirus infection.

Meanwhile, the Health Office also urged one and all to adopt precautionary measures, including wearing masks and washing hands with soap regularly, to remain free from the infection.
