Preparations for ‘Sagarmatha Dialogue’ should be flawless from every aspect: PM Oli
Kathmandu: The first meeting of the Steering Committee for the ‘Sagarmatha Sambaad’ (Sagarmatha Dialogue) concluded today under the chair of KP Sharma Oli.
During the meeting that was held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Prime Minister hoped for support, cooperation and participation from all quarters to make the event a grand success. ‘The preparations for the Dialogue should be flawless from every aspect,’ stressed Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
The matters regarding event management, invitations to foreign guests and dignitaries, the participation of experts, the appointment of a goodwill ambassador and cooperation with the private sector were discussed in the meeting.
The Sagarmatha Dialogue Secretariat has been already established at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.
The Prime Minister chairs the Steering Committee while Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Arzu Rana Deuba and Minister for Forests and Environment Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri chair and co-chairs the Management Committee respectively.
The head of the state and the head of the government from neighbouring countries including India and China have been invited to the event as special guests.
The Dialogue will be centred on climate change, mountains and the future of humanity. The event has been scheduled to take place on May 16-18.
This is the first time the government is hosting this event. Earlier on January 21, Prime Minister Oli had announced to organise the Sagarmatha Sambaad on the given date on the occasion of the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation.
Sagarmatha Sambaad is a multi-stakeholder dialogue forum committed to deliberate on the most prominent issues of global, regional and national significance.
As a platform, it brings together people from all walks of life from a broader spectrum, having the stake, influence and capacity to shape and drive the discourse for positive change.
