Federal, provincial, and local levels to coordinate on urban and waste management policies

Kathmandu, Feb 24: The federal, provincial, and local governments will coordinate in implementing the National Urban Policy 2081 BS and the Solid Waste Management National Policy 2079 BS.

A meeting of the Urban Development Committee, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Urban Development Minister Prakash Man Singh on Sunday, made this decision.

The meeting was attended by ministers from all seven provinces, mayors of municipalities, chairpersons of rural municipalities, the Chairperson of the Kathmandu Valley Mayors’ Forum, and department heads under the Ministry of Urban Development.

Discussions included the Bill Related to the High-powered Bagmati Civilization Conservation and Development Committee, the Bill to Amend the Town Development Fund Act, 2053 BS, and the Bill to Amend and Consolidate Urban Development Laws.

DPM Singh emphasized the need to enhance coordination among the three levels of government to strengthen federalism.

This was the second Urban Development Committee meeting, with the first held on February 28, 2024.
