Maoist Chair Prachanda calls for development of self-reliant nat’l economy

Kathmandu, Jan 4: Chairperson of CPN (Maoist Centre) and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the time has come for an overhaul in the economy to bring about reforms in people’s lives.

Inaugurating the Third National General Convention of the Nepal National Federation of Entrepreneurs in Kathmandu on Saturday, he said massive reforms in the economy were inevitable to change the people’s status to align it with the changed political system. The former PM also recalled the patience and restraint of entrepreneurs to face the challenges created by the country’s dwindling economy.

“The signs of improvement in Nepal’s economy are gradually visible. Our entire focus should be centered on self-employment and employment generation through an investment-friendly climate, production growth, and promotion of trade and business,” the Maoist Centre Chairman said.

Chairperson Prachanda also mentioned that his government, while drafting the policy programs and budget for the current fiscal year, advanced clear plans for the identification and mobilization of transformative areas for economic growth. He shared that more emphasis was given to agriculture, tourism, hydropower, industry, and IT sectors, considering them as the transformative areas and as the crucial beginning for economic prosperity.

Saying that the main purpose of the constitution was to build a socialism-oriented economy, Prachanda argued that a self-reliant economy should be developed while promoting productions. Chairperson of State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of House of Representatives Ramhari Khatiwada, CPN (Maoist Centre) lawmaker Madhav Sapkota, and other speakers said that the major political parties should share common views on addressing the common economic challenges in the country. —RSS
